Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory located in the western Caribbean Sea. It consists of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. Grand Cayman is the largest and most populated island, while the other two are sparsely populated.
The Cayman Islands are located south of Cuba, northwest of Jamaica, and east of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Despite their proximity to these countries, the Cayman Islands do not share land borders with any of them. The islands are located about 480 miles (770 km) south of Miami, Florida.
The road network in the Cayman Islands is approximately 785 km in length, and almost all of it is paved. There are no expressways on the islands, and the maximum speed limit is 50 mph (80 km/h). Visitors to the islands may find it useful to rent a car or scooter to explore the various attractions and destinations, but it’s important to note that traffic drives on the left side of the road.
While the majority of the road network is paved, there are still opportunities for off-road exploration. 4×4 tracks can be found on some of the less developed areas of the islands, offering visitors a chance to explore the rugged terrain and natural beauty of the islands.
In addition to driving, there are also opportunities for walking, cycling, and hiking in the Cayman Islands. GarminWorldmaps offer topographical maps for the islands, which can be useful for planning outdoor adventures. Visitors can explore the many nature trails on Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman, which offer stunning views of the islands’ flora and fauna. Hiking enthusiasts may want to consider a visit to The Bluff on Cayman Brac, which is the highest point in the Cayman Islands and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.
The Cayman Islands offer a unique and beautiful destination for visitors seeking both adventure and relaxation. With a well-maintained road network, opportunities for off-road exploration, and a variety of outdoor activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on these stunning islands.
