Bosnia Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country located in Southeast Europe, with a population of over 3.3 million people. It is bordered by Serbia to the east, Montenegro to the southeast, and Croatia to the north, west and south. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beautiful country that boasts diverse landscapes, including the Dinaric Alps, dense forests, and the Adriatic coastline.

Road network

The road network in Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of around 22,000 km of roads, of which approximately 19,000 km are paved. The remaining 3,000 km are unpaved, mostly in rural areas. The road network includes national highways, regional and local roads, as well as some expressways.

The main highway in the country is the A1, which runs from the border with Croatia in the south to the border with Serbia in the north. This highway is also a part of the European route E73, which connects the cities of Varaždin, Zagreb, Karlovac, Bihać, and Knin. The A1 is a well-maintained, four-lane expressway that stretches over 550 km, connecting major cities such as Sarajevo, Mostar, and Zenica.

Apart from the A1, Bosnia and Herzegovina has several other expressways, including the A2, which connects Sarajevo to Zenica, and the A5, which connects the city of Tuzla to the border with Serbia. However, these expressways are not yet fully completed and are still under construction.

In addition to the expressways, Bosnia and Herzegovina has an extensive network of regional and local roads that connect smaller towns and villages. Many of these roads are in good condition, although some of the smaller rural roads may be unpaved and not suitable for all types of vehicles.

Finally, there are many unpaved roads and 4×4 tracks throughout the country, especially in the mountainous regions. These roads are often used by hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to access remote areas of the country, and they offer breathtaking views of the natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In conclusion, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a well-developed road network that offers access to many parts of the country. With the ongoing construction of additional expressways and improvements to existing roads, travel in Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming easier and more convenient for both locals and tourists alike.
